Jump into this Supportive Environment
By Elizabeth Rittiman - June 4th, 2015
Learn more about the dedicated staff members serving and supporting our students. This month’s staff spotlight is on Maria Jump, Assistant Director of Student Advising.
Maria is a Colorado native who has been at CSU Global since September of 2014. She received her Bachelor’s in Modern Languages from Metro State University and a Master’s in Management from the University of Colorado at Denver. After spending time managing teams in retail environments Maria brought her customer service approach to the student experience 7 years ago.
As the Assistant Director of Student Advising, Maria’s role is all about students and creating a support net for them so they can focus on what’s most important – getting their degree. Her team is the primary point of contact for current students and handles questions not only on registration and degree plans but also financial aid and student accounts. She loves working with her group to help them improve their skills with students and is always looking for new ways to make their experiences better.
Maria’s advice to current and future students: “Don’t be afraid to ask for help. I’ve never seen a university where everyone is so committed to seeing students succeed. Sometimes students in an online environment feel like they are out there alone but you’re not. Your advisor can help you work through options and what resources are available to you. We’ve heard just about every problem and situation – there truly are no ‘dumb’ questions; our goal is to help guide you as much as possible academically and also to help you navigate the ins and outs of the university.”
She has been married for 14 years to her husband, Zach, a non-profit administrator, and they have two children.
Elizabeth Rittiman spent the first seven years of her career working in television news. When she moved to Denver with her husband in 2011 she used the opportunity to switch gears in her career to find a role where she could be more of an advocate for the things she was passionate about, education being one of them. When she’s not working, she enjoys skiing and snowshoeing in the Rocky Mountains.
